Osho Friends move High Court to free ‘Osho’ from trademark restrictions
Indian Trade Marks of Osho challenged by Osho Friends in Bombay High Court Hearing on 16 April 2025 in Bombay High Court.
Osho Friends International (OFI) has been consistently opposing the trade marks illegally registered by OIF, Pune . On 16 April 25 Bombay High Court accepted a Writ by Osho Friends seeking cancellation of trade marks of Osho by OIF,Pune.
The hearing took place before Justice Manish Pitale. Osho Friends International was represented by Senior Advocate Abhishek Malhotra, alongside advocates Sonal Chabblani and Darshit Jain from TMT Law Practice.
Official notices have been served to OIF, Pune and the Registrar of Trademarks. The Court has asked OIF,Pune to file a confirmation of this (called an affidavit of service) within one week.
OIF, Pune was represented through their lawyer and has been given six weeks to submit their written reply to the Court. After that, Osho Friends will have two weeks to respond.
The next hearing has been scheduled for 30th June 2025, and the Court has stated that this case will be taken up on a priority basis.
This legal action is part of Osho Friends International’s continued effort to safeguard Osho’s name, legacy, and vision from being monopolized or controlled by any organization.
It may be recalled that Osho Friends International had challenged the Trademarks related to Osho and His meditations in USA and won the case in 2009, thereby having all the trademarks of OIF, Zurich cancelled.
